yall. i just watched this on Netflix the other night. it is such a sweet, feel-good film. don’t let the fact that this is technically a musical dissuade you. the songs are actually good.
a must-watch.

“Voodoo Flags, or drapeaux were meant for Haitian Voodoo ceremonies in which the bright sequins and voodoo symbols would summon, or bring forth spirits called upon to join a ceremony. Voodoo Flags are made by Voodoo Priests of Haiti who draw Voodoo symbols and imagery onto cloth and who then sew hundreds and even thousands of the beads onto the cloth. The drapeaux in the collection of the Haitian Arts Collective were all bought directly from notable Voodoo priests in Port-au-Prince or Jacmel, Haiti during the mid 1980’s.”
Thank god film and tv are finally showing that black fathers actually DO commit.
I always notice these families always come from more wealthier homes. I’d love to see a black family that’s healthy and loving, even in a poverty stricken neighborhood or low income family. Now that would be dope.
